To find a qualified, competent roofing contractor.
First check the reviews on this website. If there are no contractors listed for your location, the information below may help you to locate a professional roofing contractor.

1. Family, friends and neighbors.
      This is a good place to start. If someone you know has had a good experience with their roofing contractor, odds are you should be able to expect the same. But that is not the whole story. That good experience may have been;
     a. that the contractor returned their phone call
     b. the contractor was polite and friendly
     c. the contractor came when they said they would
     d. the contractor cleaned up the mess before they left the job

The most important part of the roofing contractor experience is;
     a. Did the homeowner get true value for their roofing investment?
     b. Were the right products used?
     c. Was the roofing installed according to accepted standards?
     d. Is the roofing going to last?

If your  family, friends and neighbors happen to be roofing professionals, and can answer that more important part of the roofing experience, certainly ask them for a recommendation.

2. The phone book.
    a. Be wary of the full page advertisements. Many of these companies are sales driven with big advertising budgets. To pay for the large ads, they have to do volume work and a lot of it. Doing a lot of work means a lot of employees at low wages. Which leads to large turnover in the work force, inexperienced roofing installers, and more mistakes on your roof.

    b. Avoid the "we can do it all" contractor. Many contractors advertise the ability to work on all types of buildings, (commercial, industrial, residential) and all types of roofing, from hot tar built-up roofs to slate and ornamental copper work.
It takes a lot of time, experience, and investment in training and equipment,  to master the skills needed to insure a quality installation of any roofing system. Look for a roofing contractor that specializes in one general area of roofing. ie residential, commercial, restoration
