Examples of poor roofing contractor practice and installations.
A built-in roof / gutter downspout installed in two pieces in the interior of a roof deck. As leaves and debris built up in the lower bend of the downspout, rain water was forced back and out of the seam in the downspout, destroying the ceiling, rafters and structure.
Sandstone window sill broken by roofing contractor trying to secure flashing with expanding pin fastener.
Roof shingle nails placed too high and over driven by the roofing contractor results in the shingles sliding and blowing off the roof in high winds. Roof shingles fastened in this way are not covered by the manufacturers warranty.
Leaking Chimney Flashing
Chimney flashing set into a thin saw cut in the brick mortar allows for very little room for the caulking. And after only 7 years, this thin bead of caulking is dried out, brittle and allowing water to seep into and behind the chimney flashing.
